Mother at Large worked in the London media for many years, a rude awakening after frittering away three years studying for her degree in English Literature. She once interviewed the head of large foreign bank in his corporate hot-air balloon. The balloon veered out of control and landed in a field of cows, who scattered in fear. She also spent a week in Tenerife pretending to be married to a fellow reporter as they investigated timeshare criminals. It was a tall order to make a convincing couple, as the reporter in question happened to be gay. She met her real husband on a trek across the Franco-Spanish border. In 2006, aged 38, she took up motherhood, an occupation that has proved harder and more fulfilling than any media-related shenanigans. She is expecting her second child in July 2008.
